McGee Poole, BASF Professional Turf & Ornamentals Sales Specialist for Indiana, southern Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky

April 20, 2010

Home base: Lexington, Ky.

Time with BASF:  11 years

Approach with customers:  “This business really is a relationship business,” said Poole. “The best part about working at BASF is meeting new people and making—not just new contacts—but new friends throughout the industry. I work to help customers solve their problems.  Whether it’s a certain disease, weed or other pest issue, I help connect the dots between the problem and solution. And if BASF doesn’t have the solution, I’ll recommend other products in the market. What’s important is that the problem is solved. I've learned more from listening to others and their experiences in life and career than I would have ever imagined."

First Job:  “In eighth grade, I worked for a farm supply store where different ranchers and hobby livestock growers would purchase feed for their cattle or horses,” he said. “I rode my bike to work where I loaded bags of oats, corn, and feed into a lot of pickup trucks. Throwing those bags around helped me get a little stronger.”

When he’s not working you can find McGee:  Plucking his guitar strings to The Allman Brothers Band. A self-taught guitarist since age 13, McGee still plays and loves the blues. He also enjoys fishing and during his decade living in Florida he had a lot of practice landing mahi-mahi, snook and tuna. Around his land-locked Lexington home base, he spends more time perfecting his golf club swings than his salt water casts. His golf motto applies to all his interests:  “You have to be patient.”
