Weed Management in Container Nurseries
Dr. Joe Neal
North Carolina State University
Weed management in container nurseries is complicated by the diversity of crops, weeds and products available. In this webinar, Dr. Joe Neal will discuss the principles that guide herbicide selection and rotations for container nurseries. Topics included:
Getting to the root of the problem:
Root Rot Management for Annual and Perennial Crops
Dr. Janna Beckerman
Of all plant health problems, root rots tend to be the most under-diagnosed and misdiagnosed. This is not surprising, considering we see stems, leaves, and flowers, while the roots are hidden beneath the soil (or soilless) substrate. As a result, roots are often only examined as an afterthought, when all other causes of disease have been exhausted. Unfortunately, soil-borne fungi and water molds are the cause of some of the most widespread, and serious diseases in the greenhouse. This talk focuses on the cultural and chemical management of the most common root rots we encounter in the greenhouse.
Mites in the Nursery:
Identification, Miticides and Biological Control
Dr. J.C. Chong
Are you bugged by mites? Do you know which species they are? Among the myriad of miticides, which one do you choose? This presentation will provide attendee with information on identify mite species common in the greenhouses and nurseries, to develop an integrated mite management program, and to select the most appropriate miticides based target species, target life stage, residual longevity, compatibility with biological control and use site.
Adding Beneficial Nematodes to your Pest Control Program
Beneficial nematodes can easily be integrated into most pest management programs to help deal with common problems such a Western flower thrips and fungus gnats.

Disease ID and Management in Container Nurseries
Dr. Aaron Palmateer
Dr. Aaron Palmateer will address the economically important diseases affecting containerized nursery production. He will cover disease diagnostic characteristics, including symptoms and signs associated with pathogens, along with common disorders that are often mistaken for plant disease. Then he will offer an overview of your disease management options, including the results of recent fungicide efficacy trials.
Dr. Palmateer is Associate Professor of Ornamental Plant Pathology at the University of Florida Tropical Research & Education Center in Homestead, Florida. Hosted by Chris Beytes, editor, GrowerTalks/Green Profit.
